FAQ Ejector Tank

Will there be an odour when spreading urine?

It depends on how much the urine has been diluted. If our Ejector Tank 50L (Item no. 1013-03), which automatically mixes 1 litre of urine with 8 litres of water, is used, an odour may be noticeable for a short while after watering, but it disappears quickly. If you flush with additional water, spread it in the evening, or spread it when it rains, the odour disappears more quickly.

Can the emptying hose from the Ejector Tank be extended?

Yes, the 10-metre emptying hose can be extended to a maximum of 20 metres, and only with a ¾” hose. Remove the rubber handle with the yellow spreading nozzle before extending it. The handle is easier to remove from the hose if they are warmed up first, for example with hot water or a heat gun. Join the hose using a pipe and 2 hose clamps; do not use a coupling, as it restricts the flow too much. As a suggestion, you can cut off approx. 5 cm of the spreading nozzle and use it as a connector.

Does any odour come from the Ejector Tank?

No. The urine odour is drawn through the hose into the toilet, and when it is then blown out through the toilet’s ventilation, it is so mixed with room air that it is barely noticeable outdoors.

Does the Ejector Tank fill up instead of emptying?

Check that the water pressure is at least 2.5 bar (250 kPa).

Clean the hollow ejector nozzle and the opening of the suction hose, where deposits may form.

What should I do in winter if I route the urine to a Separett Ejector Tank during summer?

The best option is to empty the Separett Ejector Tank before winter, as urine freezes at -5°C and can cause the ejector pipe to crack. Make sure that the ejector pipe in the lid is emptied of liquid; it does not matter if a small amount of liquid remains at the bottom of the container. If you use the toilet during winter, collect the urine in suitable containers and save it for fertilising in spring, or alternatively route the urine to the greywater system/drain or to an infiltration system. The municipality’s environmental office can provide guidance on approved alternatives.

Is there a water pressure requirement for using the Separett Ejector Tank?

Yes. For the Ejector Tank to function optimally, access to water with a pressure of at least 2.5 bar (250 kPa) is required. If a higher water pressure is available, greater height differences can be handled.

How long can the urine drain from the toilet to the Ejector Tank be?

We recommend a urine drain of a maximum of 20 meters. Make sure the drain has a sufficient slope so that you get good gravity flow (approximately 1 centimeter per meter is a good guideline). On our website, you can find the Urine Hose Service Kit 32 mm L=2000 mm (Item no. 11131-01), but if you need to run a longer urine drain, we recommend that you choose a rigid PVC pipe instead. PVC pipes can be purchased from a standard builders’ merchant. Indoors, we recommend drain pipes of Ø32 or 40 mm, and outdoors Ø50 or 75 mm. This is to prevent the urine drain from freezing and bursting during the winter.
