Helena and Nils are renovating Björkhaga

The house, dating back to 1938, had not received any care for many years. In May 2018, the house finally got new owners when Helena and Nils fell in love with it at first sight.

They saw enormous potential in the old house and decided to give it all the love and attention it deserved. The renovation began as soon as the purchase documents had been signed.

The house was built by hand, plank by plank, and is surrounded by a lush garden and a plot of approximately 1,300 square metres. A lot has had to be replaced and repaired, but at the same time, it has been a joy to bring their own personal touch to the project.

Many old details have been preserved. For example, the charming wallpapers in some of the rooms fit perfectly with both the character of the house and Helena and Nils’s taste.

However, the house did not have running water or a proper bathroom. Gradually, the old pantry is being transformed into a functional bathroom, where they chose to install a urine-diverting toilet. The solution supports a sustainable lifestyle and makes it possible to reuse nutrients in the garden’s plantings.

It is inspiring to follow how the house and garden are gradually coming back to life – and to see what Björkhaga will become.

“Dear house. I will love and hate you with all your flaws – flaws that we will repair countless times.”
